Why am I committed to working at New Horizons?

Because of the members who I am blessed with to have the opportunity to serve. When I initially started working at New Horizons, I wasn’t completely sure what the job would be or what to expect. I have come to learn the members at New Horizons are labeled as developmentally disabled, however this is not completely true. In my relationships with them I have experienced individuals who are honest, appreciative for the little things, resilient, quick to forgive and most importantly accepting of anyone regardless of what you can or can’t do. These are all admirable traits for any human being to possess regardless of able or disabled.

What are you professionally and personally proud of?

I am personally proud of being a son to my dad, Celestino Hernandez. Similar to all kids, I always looked up to my dad and viewed him as my childhood hero. I can recall as a child anytime our family or friends needed something he was the person they called upon. He isn’t the fastest, strongest, smartest, or equipped with the most resources, but he always found a way to do what was needed. My father taught me valuable lessons as a child not in the things he said, but in what he did. I am grateful to have had the opportunity to see every day what it is to be a provider.

Who are you when you are not working?

I am a dog dad to my handsome pit-bull Milo. You will catch us at the park early mornings and late afternoons in the winter, however in the summer we take full advantage of the Colorado River. I also enjoy going to the gym and I am a huge sports nerd who knows way too much pointless information about the National Football League.
